Invisalign Q&A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an innovative system that straightens teeth without conventional braces. Using patented aligner trays made of clear plastic, Invisalign produces the same results as traditional orthodontic treatments without the discomfort and aesthetic concerns of metal braces.

The team at Sharon Springs Dental wants you to feel proud of your smile, which is why they offer Invisalign as an easy-to-use and virtually undetectable alternative to braces.

How does Invisalign work?

The Invisalign system involves a series of clear, plastic trays that move your teeth like braces. Every one or two weeks, you get a new tray. Each tray feels slightly different because it builds on the teeth-shifting effects of the previous trays. You continue replacing the aligner trays until you achieve the desired result. After that, a plastic retainer can hold your teeth in place.

How do I know if Invisalign is right for me?

The first step in Invisalign treatment is a consultation with the team at Sharon Springs Dental. Your dentist examines your teeth and discusses your goals for treatment. They may recommend Invisalign to correct one or more of the following orthodontic concerns:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps in your teeth

Invisalign can work for children, teens, and adults. Because there are no wires and brackets, you don’t need to change the foods you eat or the way you clean your teeth. Simply remove the aligners when eating your favorite foods, brushing, and flossing like you normally do.

What should I expect from Invisalign?

First, the team at Sharon Springs Dental takes a 3D digital impression of your teeth with the iTero® scanner. They use these scans to map out an individualized treatment plan for your unique smile.

When your first set of custom aligners are ready, your dentist checks to ensure a proper fit. You continue routine visits with the Sharon Springs Dental team every few weeks to monitor your progress and pick up your next set of aligners.

It’s important to wear Invisalign aligners for 20-22 hours per day to maintain progress. They’re virtually transparent and removable so that you can go on with your typical routine. Treatment time depends on the complexity of your orthodontic issues. You can complete Invisalign in as little as six months, but results are apparent in a matter of weeks.
